Wild Killer Whale Longevity (Edited)
Okay, Tumblr is being mean so I can’t edit my previous post to include new information without reposting so here goes.
So, I copy and pasted data from the Cetacean Cousins website into Excel. I made Excel sort data and do math in various ways. Here is what I found:
Deceased Northern Residents (current as of 4/15/2012):
Total Deceased: 190
Total Female: 52 (27%)
Total Male: 72 (38%)
Total Indetermined Gender: 66 (35%)
Average Age at Death for Indetermined Gender: 4.23
Total Unknown Death Dates (not included in averages below): 14 (7%)
Average Age at Death for Females: 38.06
Female Average Age at Death (including Indetermined Gender): 18.64
Maximum Age at Death for Females: 80
Average Age at Death for Males: 29.58
Male Average Age at Death (including Indetermined Gender): 17.36
Maximum Age at Death for Males: 50
I removed the Alaskan whale data because after looking at it again it’s too incomplete for computations.
