I put this on Tumblr as a friend thought of me and sent me the link.
I’m also stoked that I met OrcaCharm at Youmacon!
Keiko performing at Reino Aventura in Mexico
I’m loving all the Keiko that keeps popping up on my dash. He was literally such an inspiration to me, more so than any human has been so far, actually. So keep posting Keiko that love!!!

Blastoff! (by clickarmy)
Okay, orca lovers, I have a question! I’m thinking of customizing dogtags with the orca eyepatches that I’ve drawn. On the front would be the eyepatch and on the back would be the orca’s name. All in black and white. I’m highly considering the photo etched ones as I think the texture would be fantastic. (I like to touch things XD)
They’d probably be $5 each with $3 shipping. These are very rough estimates.
I could also do words like “Save Lolita”, “Save Kshamenk”, etc. on the back instead of the name. And, I’m thinking of including wild orca in there too! Like a saddle patch of Springer or Mega!
They come in orders of 100 so I want to know if anyone will actually buy them before I get myself into this. ^_^
So, what do you think?

“From play we moved to a form of work called innovative training. It means, ‘Do whatever you want to do. But you can’t do the same thing twice and get rewarded for it’. The tables are suddenly turned. Instead of saying, ‘Do this behavior’, he’s being told, ‘Do whatever behavior you want; be creative as you want to be; but you cant get the same behavior rewarded twice’. And he learned that here too. It was excruciating in the early days, because it’s a pretty complicated concept to get express without words. It’s wild, when it begins to work. It definitely makes the whale take charge. It’s like watching improvisational dancing or acting. You basically turn the whole thing over to him. He comes up with wild stuff - above the water, under water, with toys, with people.
As Keiko felt better, hornier, and more confident, he commenced playing mind games on his trainers.
From Foundation staff I heard stories of rough initiations to which he subjected new trainers. In the tests he devised for them, I gathered, Keiko could be almost diabolical.
When people first join the staff, they go through many weeks of being both Keiko’s golden child and his foil. Golden child because they’re different; they look different, they act different. In the water with him, they’re like a new toy. He’ll drop everybody for the new guy or girl. But if that very same person tries to work with him, to run a session with him. Keiko will be brutal, absolutly brutal. I mean ego-brusing stuff.
‘He’ll test you. If somebody is worthy, in the end he will settle down and work, but until then he tries everything. You ask him to do something. He’ll do almost the right thing, but not quite. Which is a sort of tease. Or he’ll not do anything at all; he’ll just sit there and watch you. Or he’ll do absolutly the wrong thing. There is a good example from a few weeks ago. He has these big plastic balls in the pool. Boomer balls. One of the new trainers asked him to touch the ball with his pec - his pectoral fin. Just touch it. Keiko touched it with his nose. He touched it with his tail. He touched it with his side. He touched it from underneath. He absolutely would not do the one thing she aksed him to do. It’s infuriating. It’s absolutely brutal. And trainers can go through weeks of this stuff. He was just feeling great.
The era when the sick whale did everything he was asked was over”.

keiko was a rebellious whale bless him
Why does this look like my buddy Jim? Probably because it was him.
Orkid is one of my favorite captives.
She’s got so much intelligence, and she’s also had a pretty rough life.
The first gif is Orkid, not quite a year old yet, circling around her dying mother. I can’t imagine Orkid swimming through her mother’s blood and wondering what was happening to her.
The second gif is Sumar’s body being removed. I don’t know how they got along typically when he was alive, but Orkid was a dominant female who had lost a member of her pod. She seemed to be somewhat distressed about the removal and may have been showing concern for Sumar when she would turn towards him from time to time during the process.
Orkid is truly an incredible animal.
I’m not crying there’s just a stick in my eye
Video of Springer’s baby.
I found a video of Springer (A73) and her baby! While watching it I recognized another young calf (probably around the same age as Springers baby). The little one was swimming with Kiltik (A52) and another whale, who might be Kilitk’s offspring Nalau (A81). Also, in this video were the two A36 brothers Plumper (A37) and Kaikash (A46). And here it is! Enjoy! At 00:31 both calves surface. The baby in the front is Springer’s calf with Springer surfaces seconds later.
Yeah! Go Springer!
